Nature In Motion – Santa Cruz Mountains
Here are a few from the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. It was nice to see the Redwoods again.

He seems to be a natural driver and he already likes spinning his tires. I think he’s learned a few things from watching Nascar and NHRA with his Papa. Just for the record, I’m not encouraging him to become a racecar driver, I didn’t buy him the car (his Mimi and Papa did) and he doesn’t even know I used to race. It’s just in his blood.
This is what Hollister looks like:
Where’s the beach and the surfers? Well, that’s about 30 miles away. Hollister is actually a small town surrounded by agriculture and cattle ranches and an endless supply of beautiful scenes just waiting to be photographed. Here’s some more of what it looks like and some in color too!
Actually it’s a 7×17″ View Camera. Just a bit more effort to take a picture than your average person is interested in. While he exposed 4 sheets, I took a little over a hundred shots. I do occasionally miss shooting large format, but now I’m fully entrenched in the digital realm.
We stumbled upon the “Historic” Jungle Trail just south of Sebastian Inlet on a good cloud day (as most of them are in Florida). Very conducive to Infrared and in this case panoramic too.
Art is subjective, right? What if it’s derived from efforts that are controlled and random at the same time? Or random movements selectively captured.
I don’t always get to shoot what and where I want, so I try to have fun shooting whatever I can. Sometimes it works.
I’ve been working on this series for a while and have finally captured a few the way I imagined them. It has taken a lot of experimenting with timing and just the right speed to get the balance of detail and motion. I think I’ve got the recipe pretty close now.
